The Deck is inspected...

and it passed. Yea!!!

It took 5 days of hard work (with 2 rain delays) by 7 people (myself, my wife, my father, my uncle, my father in-law, Doug Hughes and Joe Rinehart), but the deck was finally finished yesterday evening.

The only thing we have left to do is put the risers on the steps and add lattice to the bottom. Both of which we will do after the deck is inspected.

I didn't blog about some of the other days because quite honestly, I was exhausted. Here are some more pictures of the various stages of construction and the finished product.

We started construction of the deck today! We did not get as much done as we had hoped, mainly because we got a late start, and had to make several trips to the hardware store. [More]

The deck arrived today...or more accurately, what will become the deck, arrived today.

I am having a hard time rationalizing that in four days, that pile of lumber will actually be a deck.

We got the footers poured today, all 8 of them. I am so glad I decided to rent the cement mixer as we were able to mix 6 bags of concrete at once. I would still be out there mixing concrete if we didn't have the mixer. [More]

The Deck - Day 1.5

The building inspector came out today to inspect the holes. He came and went with quite a bit of stealth. My wife noticed something on our door when she returned from the store. It was an 'Approved' sticker.

Next step - pouring the footers. I rented a cement mixer for the weekend, big enough that is has to be towed behind my truck, just like the auger. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can get them done in one day.
