A place for my stuff

If you are a frequent visitor to my small piece of the Internet (like I have any visitors, much less frequent ones), you may have noticed the new 'My Stuff' section.

This is where I will post information about web services, ColdFusion Custom Tags, ColdFusion User Defined Functions, and any other stuff I think that others might find useful (wow, I am staring to believe my own delsuions).he first web service I ever created is listed. It is very simple. It only has one method, and has no parameters. All it does is return the current Homeland Security Threat Level.

This was something I came up with shortly after the color-coded system was introduced. A former employer wished to always have the threat level available on the web site. After weeks of searching, and several calls (none were returned) to the DHS, I relized that there was no web service or XML feed to supply this information. So I came up with an idea, and created my own. It is possible that my web service was the first to supply the current threat level (there go the delusions again). I registered the web service on X-Methods, and within days, I was getting thousands of hits per day.

When I moved this site to a new server the web service alone, just one page, had received over 1,000,000 hits for the year (with more than 1/4 of the year left).

Before coming to work for my current employer, I was actually interviewed by a firm that uses the web service on their corporate site (they didn't know I was the author, it came up during the interview).

I am currently working on implementing search functionalty where you will be able to find out what the treat level was on a certain date.
