This was something I came up with shortly after the color-coded system was introduced. A former employer wished to always have the threat level available on the web site. After weeks of searching, and several calls (none were returned) to the DHS, I relized that there was no web service or XML feed to supply this information. So I came up with an idea, and created my own. It is possible that my web service was the first to supply the current threat level (there go the delusions again). I registered the web service on X-Methods, and within days, I was getting thousands of hits per day.
When I moved this site to a new server the web service alone, just one page, had received over 1,000,000 hits for the year (with more than 1/4 of the year left).
Before coming to work for my current employer, I was actually interviewed by a firm that uses the web service on their corporate site (they didn't know I was the author, it came up during the interview).
I am currently working on implementing search functionalty where you will be able to find out what the treat level was on a certain date.
Please be sure to check out 'My Stuff', you might find some useful things there.
This is where I will post information about web services, ColdFusion Custom Tags, ColdFusion User Defined Functions, and any other stuff I think that others might find useful (wow, I am staring to believe my own delsuions).
